Goto Ben was a writer and reporter from Hakodate, Hokkaido. After working as a weekly magazine journalist and in other roles, he published Nostradamus no Daiyogen (The Great Prophecies of Nostradamus) in 1973.
The book presented the verse from the Prophecies of Nostradamus, “In the year 1999, seventh month, from the sky will come a great King of Terror,” as a prophecy of humanity’s destruction, became a huge bestseller and was made into a film. He continued writing the series afterward and had a great influence on Japan’s doomsday and occult booms.
