Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish writer of fairy tales and poet. He left more than 160 fairy tales still read around the world, such as “The Little Mermaid,” “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Little Match Girl.”
His 1841 fairy tale “Ole Lukoje” takes as its hero the sleep spirit of Danish folklore and tells of the boy Hjalmar dreaming wondrous dreams for a week. It was through this work that Ole Lukoje became known to the world.
