What are the Greys?
The Greys are aliens said to have gray skin. They are small, around one meter tall, with heads large for their bodies, large black almond-shaped eyes, a small nose and mouth, and thin limbs. Today this is the most typical image that comes to mind when people hear the word “alien.”
Abductions and the Greys
The image of the Greys spread through “abduction” accounts, in which people say they were taken aboard UFOs and examined. The most famous is the 1961 case of Betty and Barney Hill, an American couple who said they were abducted by a UFO while driving at night; the aliens they described became one of the prototypes of the Grey. Grey-like beings also appear in the stories of “alien bodies” from the Roswell incident.
Greys in films and other works
From the 1970s onward, the Grey was used again and again in UFO films and on the covers of books about abduction experiences, fixing the image around the world. Some psychologists suggest that the Grey’s appearance exaggerates features of a human fetus, or facial features that people associate with intelligence.
