What is the Missouri Monster?

The Missouri Monster is a hominid-type unidentified creature sighted repeatedly in the summer of 1972 around the town of Louisiana in Missouri in the American Midwest. It is known by the nickname “Momo.”

The 1972 sightings

The first sighting was by children playing in the yard of a house on the edge of town. They said they saw a creature about 2 m tall, covered in dark hair, with a large head and standing on two legs, walking toward the woods carrying what looked like a dead dog. Sightings and reports of eerie screams at night followed in the area, and many witnesses also said a powerful stench hung in the air.

What is the Missouri Monster really?

Possible explanations include a mistaken bear, pranks set off by the commotion, and assumptions driven by group psychology. It continues to be told as one of the relatives of Bigfoot in America’s ape-man legends.
