Ivan T. Sanderson was a Scottish-born naturalist and writer. He later worked in the United States, where his books on zoology and TV appearances made him popular.
He also had a strong interest in cryptids and strange phenomena, and is known for using the term “out-of-place artifacts” for finds that do not fit their time or place. Its abbreviation, OOPArts, came to be widely used in Japan as well.
