Kenneth Arnold was an American businessman who also flew his own private plane.
On June 24, 1947, he reported seeing nine shining objects flying at tremendous speed near Mount Rainier in Washington State. Press coverage of this Kenneth Arnold sighting gave rise to the term “flying saucer,” launching the modern UFO boom. Arnold remained involved in UFO investigation and lecturing afterward.
