Nostradamus (born Michel de Nostredame) was a 16th-century French physician and astrologer. Born in Saint-Remy-de-Provence in southern France, he is known for treating plague as a physician.
He later became famous for publishing astrological almanacs and predictions, and in 1555 he published the collection of prophetic verses, the Prophecies. He was favored by Queen Catherine de’ Medici and was also appointed physician to King Charles IX. In Japan he became widely known through the “Great Prophecies of Nostradamus” boom of the 1970s.
