Fukusaki is the birthplace of the folklorist Yanagita Kunio, who wrote down tales of the kappa (gataro) of the Ichikawa River in his hometown. In their honor, a kappa named "Gajiro" pops out of the pond in Tsujikawayama Park, now a popular sight.
