What was the Hill abduction?
The Hill abduction refers to what Betty and Barney Hill said they experienced on the night of September 19, 1961, in New Hampshire in the eastern United States. Driving a mountain road on their way home from a trip to Canada, the couple spotted a bright light in the sky and felt it was following their car. Looking through binoculars, they testified, they saw figures inside a craft with windows.
Two missing hours and regression hypnosis
When they got home, the couple realized they had arrived about two hours later than expected. Afterward, Betty began having recurring nightmares of being captured by aliens. In 1964 the couple underwent regression hypnosis with a psychiatrist, during which they recalled “being taken into the UFO and examined by small aliens with grey skin.” The story was published as a book in 1966 and became a bestseller.
Betty’s “star map”
Betty said the aliens showed her a star map inside the UFO, and drew it after hypnosis. Later, a theory arose that the drawing resembled the arrangement of stars around Zeta Reticuli in the constellation Reticulum, spreading the story that “the aliens came from Zeta Reticuli.” However, critics point out that with so many stars, it could be matched to almost any region.
The prototype of abduction
The psychiatrist himself thought the couple’s story might be Betty’s dreams influencing both their memories. Even so, the case became the prototype of alien abduction accounts, and the aliens the couple described are said to be the origin of today’s Grey image.
