What is the anatomical model ghost story?

It is a school ghost story in which the anatomical model in the science room comes to life at night and walks around the school, or runs down the halls at top speed. Stories also say that in the morning the model has moved, or its organ parts have fallen out.

A staple of the seven wonders of the school

The anatomical model story has been told in schools all over Japan as one of the “seven wonders of the school.” It is a classic alongside the skeleton in the same science room, the portrait of Beethoven whose eyes move in the music room, the statue of Ninomiya Kinjiro that walks at night, and the piano that plays by itself.

Why are anatomical models scary?

Anatomical models are half skin and half exposed muscle and organs, eerie in being like a human but not human. The fear of human-shaped things moving, combined with the unusual setting of a school at night, is thought to be why so many children have passed the story on.
