Who was John Titor?
John Titor was a person who kept posting on American internet message boards from 2000 to 2001, claiming to be “a time traveler from 2036.” His real name and identity are unknown, and he is still remembered as the very image of a “man from the future.”
The future Titor described
Titor explained that he was an American soldier from 2036 who had stopped off in 2000 on his way to 1975 to obtain an old computer, the “IBM 5100.” He also posted details and photos of his time machine, and left predictions about the future, such as a civil war splitting the United States and a third world war with nuclear weapons in 2015. In March 2001, he posted that he was “returning to the future” and disappeared.
Did John Titor’s predictions come true?
The American civil war and third world war that Titor predicted did not actually happen. Because Titor himself said that “the future is one of branching world lines, and this world line may turn out differently,” debate continues among his supporters. The story that the IBM 5100 had hidden features was later confirmed to be true, which drew attention. In Japan, too, he became widely known through TV and magazines in the late 2000s and became a subject of science fiction games and anime. There are many theories about who he really was, but nothing is certain. Compare the Mandela effect and the Shimokitazawa time slip.
