What is a Humalien?

“Humalien” is a coined word combining the English “human” and “alien,” referring to beings born of humans and aliens. It became a sudden topic after Seki Akio, a comedian who tells urban legends, introduced it on the TV Tokyo network program Yarisugi Toshi Densetsu broadcast on December 28, 2019.

What are they said to be?

According to the program and the rumors that spread afterward, Humaliens already live in human society just like ordinary people. They cannot be distinguished by appearance alone, and whether someone has a telepathy-like “seventh sense” is said to be the clue. Rumors that some of the world’s entrepreneurs and celebrities are Humaliens were also told.

The idea of human-alien hybrids

The idea of human-alien hybrids is not new. Among the accounts of alien abduction, stories of “being subjected to experiments to create alien-human hybrids” appear from around the 1980s. The ancient astronaut theory, which sees ancient gods as aliens, and the theory that the Anunnaki created humanity through genetic engineering, also lead to the idea that alien blood flows in humans.

Enjoying it as an urban legend

The existence of Humaliens has not been scientifically confirmed. There are rumors labeling particular people as “Humaliens,” but this is strictly a story to be enjoyed as an urban legend. A card game using the name was later released. It is also sometimes linked with transhumanism, the idea that humans will evolve through technology.
