Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychologist who founded “analytical psychology.” He first worked on psychoanalysis with Freud but later went his own way.
Jung proposed the ideas of the “collective unconscious,” a deep layer of the psyche shared by all humanity, and “archetypes,” the common images that appear in it. He studied the symbols of myths and alchemy psychologically and wrote books such as Psychology and Alchemy. He also discussed the ouroboros, the serpent biting its own tail, as one of the archetypes representing primordial wholeness.
